Lors d’un raid pour choper du clando latino dans une baraque d’El Paso, la police fait une macabre découverte : près d’une trentaine de cadavres plombés au gros calibre, et un seul survivant menotté qui cherche à tout prix à s’amputer la main à la hache… Une fois rapatrié au poste pour donner un peu de contexte à ce foutoir sans nom, le bonhomme semble tout faire pour aggraver son cas. Du genre, quand on lui demande son blaze, il répond « Le Voyageur ». Ça pose l’ambiance. Il affirme être incapable de mourir, mais semble très nerveux et surtout pressé de partir car quelqu’un veut le tuer. Perché, le zigue. Pourtant, au fur et à mesure de l’interrogatoire, il va se montrer de plus en plus convaincant, à travers des aveux redoutables sur les phénomènes occultes qu’il a vus durant sa loooongue vie : créatures mythiques, démons, morts-vivants et autres joyeusetés du folklore latino-américain. C’est une version gore de « Coco » qu’il balance en version condensée, car l’heure tourne et la Mort est sur le point de débarquer au poste pour un nouveau carnage… Alors là, les amis, c’est Feliz Navidad pour vous avant l’heure ! Tijdens een raid om wat Latino illegalen te vangen – altijd goed voor de statistieken – in een kot in El Paso, doet de politie een lugubere ontdekking. Bijna dertig aan flarden geschoten lijken en een enkele geboeide overlevende die wanhopig zijn hand aan het amputeren is met een bijl… Eenmaal terug op het bureau om deze puinhoop uit te klaren, lijkt de man erop gebrand om zijn lot te verergeren. Zoals wanneer hij gevraagd wordt naar z’n naam, antwoordt hij “De Reiziger”. Okééé… Hij zegt dat hij niet kan sterven, maar lijkt wel erg nerveus en vooral gehaast om zich uit de voeten te maken, want iemand wil hem vermoorden. Compleet gestoord, deze kerel… Maar naarmate het verhoor vordert, wordt zijn relaas steeds overtuigender, met angstaanjagende details over de occulte fenomenen waar hij in zijn laaaange leven al aan werd blootgesteld: mythische wezens, demonen, levende doden en andere Latijns-Amerikaanse folklore. Als een soort gore-versie van COCO, in een notendop want de klok tikt verder en de Dood staat op het punt in hun bureau te verschijnen voor een nieuw bloedbad… Jawel vrienden, Feliz Navidad valt vroeg dit jaar voor jullie! Nearly thirty bodies brutally shot to pieces with a nasty piece o’ gun, and a single handcuffed survivor who is desperately trying to amputate his hand with an axe… After he’s brought back to the station to clarify what the bloody hell happened over there, the man seems intent on making his case worse. Like, when asked for his name, he answers “The Traveler”. Okaaay… He says he’s incapable of dying, but seems very nervous and particularly in a hurry to leave because someone is out to kill him. Dude’s clearly a looney… However, throughout the interrogation he gets more and more convincing, describing in detail all the occult phenomena he’s been exposed to in his loooong life: mythical creatures, demons, the undead and other Latin American folklore. He basically gives them a gory version of COCO, though rushed because the clock is ticking and Death is about to arrive at the station just in time for another bloodbath… Feliz Navidad comes early this year for you guys!
